Thermal management systems are an important means to ensure the continuous and effective operation of lithium batteries. Currently, they are mainly divided into three types according to different media: air cooling, liquid cooling, and phase change cooling. Among them, air cooling has the simplest structure and lowest cost, and is the most widely used technology at present. However, due to its low heat transfer efficiency and poor temperature uniformity, thermal management engineers are turning to liquid cooling technology, which has a larger cooling capacity and higher heat transfer coefficient. Liquid cooling technology is not only widely used in new energy vehicles, but also starting to penetrate into the energy storage field. The components of the liquid cooling system include battery coolers, electronic expansion valves, electronic water pumps, battery valves, and liquid-cooled plates. According to the different shapes and structures, liquid-cooled plates can be divided into stirring friction welding, harmonica tube, blowing and expansion, and brazing. Compared with traditional fuel vehicles, the demand for liquid-cooled plates for new energy vehicle batteries is growing rapidly. It is expected that the global market size of electric vehicle cooling plates will reach about 14.2 billion yuan by 2025. In addition, the increase in the penetration rate of liquid-cooled energy storage has brought incremental demand. GGII predicts that by 2025, the installed capacity of electrochemical energy storage in China is expected to exceed 50 GWh, while at the end of 2020, it was only 4.4 GWh.
