What is the application of aluminum foil for fin stock in air conditioners?

An air conditioner works by transferring heat between air and the working fluid (coolant) inside the air conditioner. Air does not transfer heat efficiently. In order to overcome the poor heat transfer properties of air, a very large area of contact with the air is used. The aluminum fins in an air conditioner are used to provide dozens of square meters of surface area in contact with the air so reasonable amounts of heat can be transferred.
