1. Four conventional cooling methods:

The main methods of battery(Lithium ion battery cells and other kind of batteries) heat dissipation are natural cooling, air cooling, liquid cooling, and direct cooling.

They all used to maintain battery module an optimal working condition. Then the thermal management of the battery mainly has the main functions of heat dissipation, preheating and temperature equalization.

1.1 Natural cooling: Its advantages are simple structure, low cost and small footprint. The disadvantage is that its heat dissipation efficiency is too low to meet the demand for high-power cooling. The principle of natural cooling is to use its natural air convection to exchange heat.

1.2 Air cooling: the structure is relatively simple and the cost is low. This is mainly used in some mini cars, and some electric cars that specialize in price wars. Most of them will choose this air-cooled mode. Another advantage is that the structure of the system is relatively simple, easy to maintain, and there is no leakage of the liquid cooling system. The disadvantage is that it will be affected by some external influences. For example, when the environment is relatively high, its cooling effect will not be so good.

1.3 Liquid cooling: through the internal cooling pipeline of the battery pack and the cooling liquid of the cold plate, the heat generated by the battery during operation is taken away to reduce the temperature of the battery. The advantage is its high heat transfer coefficient, large heat energy and fast cooling efficiency. Then the consistency of the battery is also more significant. The disadvantage is that because of the presence of this liquid, the safety performance of its seal is relatively high. And the cost is higher compared with the air cooling and natural cooling.

1.4 Direct cooling: Inject the refrigerant into the air conditioning system, and then the low temperature can quickly take away the heat generated by the battery. It has the highest power-on efficiency, but the disadvantage is the same. Like liquid cooling, it has relatively high performance requirements. Then there is a higher requirement for this manufacturing process, and the heat dissipation uniformity of its water cooling

1.5 Q&A

Is the battery used for air cooling, and there is also a gap between the two batteries?

Yes, the current integration may be able to use 6-8 yuan, and the air cooling used to be only about 4 yuan. In the past, a relatively small battery pack may be used, but now the liquid cooling may be directly used on the chassis of the car, so the area may be four times that of the bottom layer. With the same large unit area, if you put 10 yuan in air cooling, you can put 15-20 yuan in water cooling.


2. Application scenarios of water cooling plate:

2.1 Power Battery Pack for electric automotive

For passenger, commercial, and logistics vehicles, heavy equipment and other power battery application, our project team will provide exploration, design, simulation, optimization, molding, proofing, delivering, system integration and after-sale services according to the actual requirements of customers, which can be temperature difference, pressure drop, pressure resistance, internal flow channels and external connectors, etc. And brazed cold plates, machined cold plates, serpentine tubes, battery boxes and so on can be the end-product forms.

2.2 Energy storage system battery pack

For the heat exchange needs of energy storage battery pack from power generation side and consumption side, which include home energy storage system(HESS), industrial and commercial energy storage system, wind and solar energy storage integration, one-stop micro-grid energy storage and other application scenarios. Our project team will provide liquid cooling plate structure design, thermal interface material selection, pipeline layout, water cooler selection and other supporting services according to the actual requirements of customers, which can be space arrangement inside the ESS container, cell parameters, temperature difference, pressure drop, pressure resistance, etc. Brazed cold plates, machined cold plates, serpentine tubes, separated tray, integrated tray and so on can be the end-product forms.
